Time-consuming – custom websites take time to make. With a limited time and budget, you may find this option quite expensive since most web designers will charge higher to projects with deadlines.

Advantages of website templates:

Fast development – there is a template for every type of website, whether it is for business, medical or real estate. The idea is to grab an existing design and tweak to fit your needs.
Low cost – usually priced at $10 to $60, depending on the complexity of the design, the pre-built web designs are relatively cheaper.

Disadvantages of website templates:

Non-exclusivity of the design – some templates though is made with exclusive licenses, which means you can purchase template for your own exclusive use. But then again, that will cost you more.
Coding complexity – if you decide not to hire a web programmer or designer, you might find it difficult to customize a web template. That will cost you more time.

Your choice website design will depend on factors like time-frame, budget, frequency of updates for your site, and knowledge in website coding. You have to remember also that some web hosting companies offer custom or pre-built web designs and CMS hosting. Your web hosting needs will also cost less if you decide to have your own design, whether it is customized or pre-made.

Come-On Graphic Banners for Your Blog

Recently, I have made a custom graphic banner for a blogger friend. So, might as well share these templates for you guys. I affectionately call this graphic stuff as "Come-on Banners", since it's totally designed to invite people to visit your blog. Basically, it's just a JPEG banner with generic texts that goes "Click to Visit my Blog", "Cool Blog Here", or "Visit my Blog here".

You can post these Come-On Banners on your Twitter, Facebook, MySpace, Friendster, or any social networking site you are member of. You can post it on your About Me section or you can use it as a comment graphic. Just be creative.

I have created four template Come-On Banners for your blogs, which of course are free. I'll be adding more in the future. You will notice that there is a space intended for the name of your blog on each banner template. So you can add your blog's logo, text, and description on top of the banner. What Do You Mean by Web 2.0 Web Design

Everything about today's web designing is Web 2.0. You might probably have already heard about the term, but what does it really mean when you say Web 2.0-ish web design.

As a starter, Web 2.0 refers to the technology and the advancement of scripts used in today's websites. What was seen as impossible or impractical ten years ago in web designing is now achievable in Web 2.0. For example, before it was impossible to float a flash graphic on top of a web page. Now, it is possible.

Web 2.0-ish design has also paved the way for more functional web design. Ten years, web designs are heavy and fanciful. I can remember those days when graphic and web designers are just so fond of using bevel and shadows.

Web 2.0 web design is no longer about bevels and shadows, although sometimes they can be applicable. Web 2.0 web design is simpler but catchier.

Although bevels, shadows and glows are seldom used in today's web designs, the use of gradients and patterns are very prominent. Web 2.0 logos are also bright colored, the usual colors are pink, yellow green, yellow, orange, red, and bright blue.

White is still the safest color as a background for web 2.0 design. However, one might notice that more and more websites are now embracing darker and non-conventional colors for web backgrounds like black, dark blue, and chocolote brown.

Going back to the logos, web 2.0 icons and graphics are also characterized by their bubbly appearances bearing strange, but cute and fanciful images. The age of web2.0 logos has also given birth glossy effects on text and on logos.

Today, we're featuring a French website for Sport Shoe Shop, you can view the site at http://www.shoesaddict.fr/. The design is all flash-based, but the idea is simple. It takes on the doodle-scribble web design craze that's been going on lately.

Black and darker colors are definitely the in thing nowadays. This website has got a dark grayish background, which of course helps in making the doodle-inspired graphics stand out. You may also notice that its graphic elements are colored brightly.

Blue, yellow, pink are the predominant colors here. The white colored graphics help neutralize the boldness of these colors though.

Doodled clouds are hot! The web design also incorporating the "peeping graphic design style". I call it peeping since you can see a lot elements peeping out from behind the graphic elements. Such as the one you can see in the video player below.

Peeping stars, a skull and other random doodles help emphasize the main graphic. And since the site is flash, the peeping style are also animated.

Doodles and scribbles are really taking over the world of web design. But there is more to just doodling and scribbling. Here in this post, we are featuring a blogsite that uses this unconventional web design. Find out how it effectively combines the common grunge style with the doodles and scribbles style.

1. Make The Theme Relevant

A good web design can't be achieved by throwing in scribbles and doodles randomly. Create a theme that will make all the elements coherent.

For example, in the website Pointless Ramblings, the designer threw in elements like the paint splat, drawings and grunges.

2. Choose The Right Font

Of course, since you're using doodles all around, choose a font for the logo that will snug fit into the doodle theme. In the Pointless Ramblings website, the designer chose the font called Pointy.

3. Make Your Doodle Design Browser Friendly

Again in the Pointless Ramblings website, the designer broke the header elements into three: logo, main background and the right background. This ensures that the header will not take time to load.

Where To Find Doodles and Scribbles Web Design Downloads

2006 and 2007 were the years of grunges, ink splats and diagonal patterns for web design. 2008 is without question the year of doodles and scribbles.

These days, it is nearly possible replicate, generate, degenerate, duplicate and imitate works using Adobe Photoshop. That is why web designers are constantly looking for ways to make their projects look and feel expensive, in terms of time and creativity.

Doodles and scribbles are nothing new to the graphics designing world. The world of web designing however is yet is to embrace this radically new approach in theming websites and blogs. But what basically are doodles and scribbles.

In a nutshell, doodles and scribbles are nothing but drawings. But there is however a great deal of difference between the two. Doodles particularly is a term used to define informal drawings typically those that you see on notebooks of high school students. The thing you usually do with your notepads during a bored, i mean a board meeting. I used to do this stuff when I was a high schooler, my notes were full of doodles usually logos of NBA teams or caricatures of my annoying teachers.

Scribbles, on the other hand, is a web design term often associated with random strokes or abstract lines, the kind that you see when say for example someones wants to try on a paper if a ball pen works. Scribbles can be in the form of swirls, flourishes, random objects but most importantly scribbles are associated with pen drawn texts such as I Love You.

It is pretty much difficult to create a doodle or a scribble using Adobe Photoshop, although with tools such as a graphic stylus and excellent dexterity, computer fabricating doodles and scribbles could be possible. The best way to achieve real sketchy scribble web design is to scan your little brother's notebooks or make doodles yourself.

For web resources. Brusheezy.com has got some really decent doodles and scribbles to download. However, I have also stumbled upon great finds such as http://ego-box.com/brushes/ which has got cool hand drawn swirls, sketched stars, scribbled hearts and random doodles you could possibly imagine.

My favorite free stock photo site, sxc.hu also has got cool resources, you might just have to be extra playful with the search keywords. Try searching "pencil drawings" or "sketch".

sxc.hu is yet to be filled with stock doodles and scribbles. And while the wide demand of these "sketchy" graphics continue to grow, you can take full advantage of making your own doodles, have them available in a package and sell it.

www.webdesignerwall.com is a good example of a website that uses doodles and scribbles.
